Being on the west coast of Costa Rica gave us the opportunity to see some amazing sunsets. We had pretty much every ingredient necessary for a satisfying sunset. During our week in Playa Hermosa, we were able to watch the sun set from a few different vantage points, which resulted in some pretty fantastic photos. Check them out!
We were situated at the top of a fairly steep hill. This allowed us to see over the thick jungle, to the warm ocean waters. The sun is just barely peeking through the trees, but purple and orange fill the sky and reflect off the water.
From the infinity pool at the top of the resort, you could get a perfect glimpse of the sunset.
We spent one evening exploring the rocky shore as the tide slowly came back in. The waves splashed among us as we searched the pools of water for crabs and fish.
It’s interesting how you can’t actually see the sun here, but the light reflecting off the ocean is so bright.

Hello! Did you travel to Central America alone? I’m planning on going to Panama and Costa Rica (one week each) at the end of May/early June by myself and I was wondering if there are any tips or warnings you have for a female traveling alone? Thank you!
Hi Vivian.
Great question! Safety is a big issue, not only when traveling alone, but also when in Central America. I traveled with a girl friend of mine, so no, I was not alone. However the top tips I can give you are as follows:
1. Trust your intuition. If something or someone gives you a bad vibe, get out of that situation
2. Never let your guard down. Be aware of your surroundings and who is around you.
3. Don’t be an idiot. As Dwight Schrute says “before I do anything I ask myself ‘would an idiot do that?’ If the answer is yes, then I do not do that thing”
4. Always have a back up plan. Register with the STEP program if you’re a US citizen. (If not look at what your country has in terms of a travel safety program). Know the address and phone number for your country’s consulate. Have a phone that works.
Luckily, I believe you’ve chosen two of the more safer countries in CA. These two places see lots of tourists so it will be just a bit easier for you to navigate. Have you traveled solo before? Do you speak Spanish? I’d love to talk to you more about your trip! Feel free to send me an email 🙂
What a lovely view from the hotel! This brings back memories of my trip to Costa Rica. I actually got to go to to Playa Hermosa and loved it. 🙂
Hi Brianna,
I have always wanted to travel to Costa Rica and after seeing your photos I want to go there as quickly as possible. Thanks for the post!
It’s very beautiful! I’d love to go back and see more of the country!
