What Not to Do When Planning Your Next Trip

February 8, 2016

No one likes to be told what to do. So we decided to tell you what not to do!

HyperGypsy and Archives of Adventure got together to write an article on the theme – “What Not To Do When..”

What to do.png

DON’T let the opinions of others deter you from traveling somewhere

Some may think a place is too dangerous, or may have had a bad experience there. This should not sway your decision to travel to a particular destination. Every person has a different experience. Don’t let someone else define your experience before you’ve even had it.

DON’T search for flights without using an incognito window in your browser

Flight search engines will sometimes use the cookies saved on your computer to see your past searches. They can use this information to alter the price that is quoted to you. You can avoid this by searching flights with an incognito tab.

DON’T plan out every minute of every day

Planning activities and sightseeing for every minute of the day is going to exhaust you. You will return home needing a vacation to recover. Leave some time to relax and enjoy your atmosphere. Take a day or two to just wander around your destination. It will also leave some flexibility if you end up wanting to partake in an activity that you had not known about.

DON’T let the rainy season stop you from going

Generally, the rainy season is off-peak tourist seasons for many destinations. This translates to fewer people, lower prices, etc. If you can put up with a few hours of rain a day (sometimes no rain at all), your trip will not be ruined! Sometimes in a warmer climate, those rainy hours are more than welcome!

DON’T forget to look into loyalty programs with airlines and hotels

Those points can add up to some great perks! Don’t miss out on them.

DON’T be afraid to book a ticket for one

There are an outrageous number of advantages to traveling solo. You will have many opportunities to make new travel companions while you’re away. Here are some great reasons to travel solo!

Love love love this list, especially the first tip! If I listened to everyone who told me not to go somewhere, I would have never left my house.

Great tips! The loyalty cards have helped us get a lot of places and I love that you mention that you need some time for spontaneity!
